Common Invasive Plants of New Jersey
Here are some of the more common invasive plants found in and around Montclair, New Jersey. These are the ones we most often come across when visiting local properties. Some invasives, like English Ivy, are easy to spot as they aggressively climb fences and trees. Others, like Barberry, may seem less obvious—their berries can be eaten by birds and later dispersed into nearby forests, where they take root and spread. As homeowners, it's important to recognize these invasive species in our yards and work toward replacing them with native alternatives.
